Leading waste management specialist CSG has capped an historic year by being shortlisted for two top business awards.

CSG has been named as a finalist in the Hampshire Business Awards in two categories: Growth Company of the Year and Technology Innovation Award.

The Hampshire Business Awards are run through a partnership between The Business Magazine and Hampshire County Council and celebrate the cream of the crop across the region, from start-ups to booming businesses.

CSG is a national operation with more than 650 employees but has been proudly based in Hampshire since 1934. The business started with a single sewage tanker operating in Botley and today has its head office in Fareham.

HR Director Steve Hicks said: “We are thrilled to be shortlisted in the Hampshire Business Awards. There are some fantastic businesses in Hampshire so I’m sure the standard of entries was sky high.

“This year CSG is celebrating its 90th anniversary – and we are stronger than ever. Our latest annual report announced improved sustainability results, a reduced carbon footprint and best-ever profitability.

“We are very much a national business with a network of more than 30 waste treatment and recovery centres across the country, but Hampshire remains an important location for us.

“Our team are really looking forward to the awards night.”

The winners will be announced at the Farnborough International Exhibition & Conference Centre on November 21.

Judges shortlisted CSG for the Growth Company of the Year Award due to the business’ recent financial results, which has seen turnover accelerate from £89m in 2021 to £100m in 2022 and £110m in 2023. Profitability has also risen to a record-breaking £13m.

CSG has reinvested £14.65m over the last two years, including £3.5m on a waste recovery process centre in Avonmouth.

At the heart of CSG’s success is a culture of innovation. In the last 12 months CSG has opened a new £1m sewage treatment plant in Botley that uses a cutting-edge centrifuge system, introduced Raman spectrometer technology to identify unknown chemicals and launched a sonar boat to map the surface of lagoons.

CSG offers an incredibly diverse range of services, including waste haulage, wastewater engineering, waste treatment and recovery, industrial cleaning and consultancy services.

CSG processes 10% of the UK’s chemical waste arisings and serves 30,000 households without access to mains-drainage.
