Green Thinking Outside the Bubble

Companies these days are expected to take an interest in the wider world outside their own commercial ‘bubble’. This is especially true when it comes to caring for the environment, and particularly so for the waste management industry whose activities are so closely linked to contributing to environmental sustainability.

CSG Lanstar (Manchester) has long accepted that it has a role to play in the business community’s corporate responsibility for protecting the natural environment, and willingly provides support for environmental and community projects both at home and overseas.

One of Lanstar’s initiatives has been to link with the international conservation charity World Land Trust which takes direct action to save rainforest and other wildlife habits.

In 2007, Lanstar pledged to reduce its carbon footprint by funding the purchase of one acre of tropical forest each time it completed a commission for UK Power Networks for whom it provides specialist spills response, land remediation and hazardous waste processing.

To date, Lanstar has sponsored the purchase of over 120 acres of forest, joining a community of corporate supporters who have helped WLT to save and protect vast swathes of threatened habitat across Asia, Africa and South America.

Along with its support for many environmental and community causes in the UK, Lanstar’s work with WLT is an example of how the company is heeding the call to ‘Think Global, Act Local.’
