A plant manager who followed in his father’s footsteps has been recognised for a decade of service at a Greater Manchester waste processing centre.

Dave Lawson joined CSG 10 years ago as a plant operator and praises the company for creating careers for local people.

The 44-year-old dad of two said: “People might not immediately think about the waste industry when they’re looking for a job, but actually there are great career opportunities. I was fortunate that my father already worked for CSG, so I was aware of the company and the work being done here at the Cadishead site.

“I literally started at the bottom, operating one of the waste treatment plants, but I am a good example of how CSG enables people to train and progress. Now I am the plant manager at this site, responsible for day-to-day operations, staffing, and maintaining the processes we need to follow to safely and efficiently accept different types of waste for treatment, recycling or materials recovery.”

“I love the variety of the work and the people I work with, and I’m really proud of the fact that CSG creates employment for lots of local people in the Manchester area. I get a real buzz out of the day-to-day achievements of the team here at Cadishead.”

CSG offers a comprehensive waste management service for industrial and domestic customers, specialising in the safe processing and disposal of hazardous or chemical waste.

Jen Cartmell, treatment director for CSG, said: “It has been a pleasure to work with Dave over the past ten years. He has very much become to ‘go-to guy’ on the plant and it is reassuring to know the day-to-day operation is in such good hands.

“Dave has earned the respect of all operators and drivers who work at the Cadishead site and the ongoing success of the facility is a testament to Dave’s approach to people management.”
