Waste Managers’ Award-Winning Innovation

A waste management company has been voted Salford’s most innovative business.

Lanstar Ltd., the Manchester-based hazardous waste management arm of Cleansing Service Group, scooped the Innovation Award at this year’s Salford Business Awards ceremony after beating off strong competition.

The company, which operates the UK’s biggest hazardous industrial waste treatment, processing and recycling facility at Cadishead, impressed the judges with a trio of pioneering sustainable waste processing facilities developed at the site and put into operation over the past year.

Lanstar has developed new technologies for tackling the safe disposal of polluted tanalised timber and recovering nickel of a high purity from waste solutions, and a process for recovering and recycling contaminated industrial ‘wipes’.

The judges said they had been “bowled over” by Lanstar’s enthusiasm for its work.

The awards were organised by Salford City Council, Chapel Street Business Group and the University of Salford which sponsored the Innovation category.

University vice-chancellor Professor Martin Hall said: “Some of the businesses recognised here are amongst the finest in the country and continue the city’s and the university’s long tradition of innovation and success.”
